A SIM swap is someone persuading your mobile carrier to move your number to their SIM. From then on, login codes sent by SMS go to them — and Telegram can log in with an SMS code. Because a Blomo account can be opened with Telegram and its money notifications and support chat live there, a stolen number can become a stolen Telegram and a way into Blomo. Two settings make the number alone not enough: Telegram’s own 2-Step Verification password and Blomo’s two-factor authentication. Turn both on before anyone tries.
How a phone number turns into account access
Telegram identifies people by phone number. Its FAQ says so directly: “the phone number is the only way for us to identify a Telegram user at the moment,” and someone holding your number can log in to your account (Telegram FAQ).
What a stolen Telegram reaches on the Blomo side:
- A Blomo sign-in. Logging in through Telegram is a full sign-in to the linked Blomo account — unless Blomo two-factor is on, in which case the authenticator code is still demanded (someone has your password).
- Your money notifications. Blomo sends them to your Telegram chat (terms, section 3), so the attacker would see them too.
- Your support chat. Blomo support is reached through the Telegram bot @blomo_bot (terms, section 22), and whoever controls your Telegram can write there as you.
The two settings that stop it
1. Telegram 2-Step Verification. An extra password on top of the login code. Telegram’s FAQ: with it enabled, “you will need both an SMS code and a password to log in” (Telegram FAQ). It is in Settings → Privacy and Security → 2-Step Verification. Set a recovery email there too, and protect that mailbox with its own strong password and two-factor, as Telegram itself advises.
2. Blomo two-factor authentication. In the Blomo app: Settings → Security → Two-factor authentication, with any authenticator app. It protects the sign-in, including a sign-in through Telegram: without the code from your authenticator, a hijacked Telegram does not open Blomo (section 3). It guards the door rather than every action inside, which is why the first setting matters as much as this one.
A third, outside both apps: many carriers let you set a SIM PIN or a port-out lock on the number. What exists and what it is called depends on the carrier; ask yours.
Signs a swap is happening
The clearest one is your phone dropping to “no service” or “SOS only” in a place where it normally works, while other phones around you are fine. Close behind: a message from your carrier about a SIM change you did not request, or a session you do not recognise in Telegram’s list of devices.
The first hour, in order
- If Telegram is still open on another device of yours, turn on 2-Step Verification there first and end the other sessions under Settings → Devices (on some versions, Privacy and Security → Active Sessions).
- Call your carrier from another phone and have the number blocked and returned to a SIM you hold. With no other logged-in device, this is the first step, as Telegram’s FAQ says (Telegram FAQ).
- Tell Blomo support that your Telegram or phone number is compromised. The Blomo terms make reporting a compromise your obligation and say it is the step that lets Blomo protect the balance (section 12). Because support is reached through Telegram, getting your number back in step 2 is also how you get your support channel back.
- Once you are back in, turn on Blomo two-factor if it was off, and read your notifications and card history for anything you did not do.
Short answers
Can a SIM swap give someone my Blomo account? It can give them your Telegram, and a Telegram sign-in opens Blomo unless Blomo two-factor is on.
What stops it? Telegram’s 2-Step Verification password plus Blomo two-factor authentication. With both on, the phone number alone is not enough to sign in to either.
Where is Telegram’s 2-Step Verification? Settings → Privacy and Security → 2-Step Verification.
How do I reach Blomo support if my Telegram is gone? Support is reached through @blomo_bot, so recovering your number and your Telegram comes first.
